The second year PACKLAB. students Nikolo Kerimov and Ilari Laitinen were invited to Sundsvall, Sweden in the beginning of October 2009, to pick up the first prize in the Packaging Mid Sweden Award-competition for their easy-to-open concept “IISI”. The prizes were awarded at the Paper Maker’s Night event held in Sundsvall City Hall, which gathered around 250 professionals from the Swedish packaging and paper industries.
During their stay in Sundsvall, they were also given the opportunity to visit Packaging Mid Sweden, Mid Sweden University and SCA R&D Center facilities in Storgatan, to meet distinguished designers and researchers that also share a passion for packaging.
Project manager Robert Nordin from Packaging Mid Sweden showed the students around and conducted a brief presentation of the material studio MaterialAteljén, where also the students from Graphic Design & Industrial Design departments at Mid Sweden University presented their concepts and packaging designs. MaterialAteljén showed various solutions regarding choice of packaging materials, and it was possible to see, feel and learn about different packaging materials and applications, and also discover new innovative packaging materials.
Mid Sweden University is already one of the leaders in the material research, and has all the capabilities to become one of the most innovative universities to offer packaging design courses in Sweden. We will see what the future brings!
